Making the Most of Magnificence

12 April 2010

Last month saw the Cambridge News Business Excellence Awards take place at the prestigious King’s College, with Suffolk based AV Unit handling all the audio visual aspects for the event.

The ceremony took place in the Great Hall of the college, which is part of the University of Cambridge. Arguably one of the most anticipated events in the business calendar for the county; it was attended by two hundred leading local businessmen and women.

King’s College is widely regarded as one of the best venues in Cambridge and Cambridge News wanted the setting of the awards to reflect the business talent being celebrated.

As the building was built in the fifteenth century, it was necessary for AV Unit to take added care and be resourceful with the surroundings.

AV Unit’s managing director Adam Clark said: “It’s incredibly important to be sensitive to event venues, too many people use a one size fits all approach to dressing events instead of working with what the venue naturally offers.”

“For the Cambridge News Business Awards we designed around the historic and grand setting, working with it and making the most of the magnificent architecture.”

AV Unit successfully managed to demonstrate how venues can be made to be fitting for an event by maximising the existing surroundings.

The lighting used helped to augment the natural beauty of the Great Hall and at the same time added to the atmosphere of such an esteemed awards ceremony.

Large, old buildings often present aesthetic and acoustic challenges, but the equipment used and the expertise of the AV Unit team meant that any issues were avoided. The quality of the audio visual presentation reflected the high standard of venue and business talent at the event.

Although there were hi-tech screens set up around the venue for the screening of the awards, they did not jar with the traditional feel of the Great Hall. The architecture and paintings were still visible, adding to the prestige of the event.
